Many times people tell me that they don’t like "numbers", that numbers are meaningless and it's people that count. I agree. But, there are still times when I look at numbers and realize that each number is a person. Each hour given by a volunteer represents a Christian taking the time to give of themselves to bless another person — another person they don’t even know!

In February 288 volunteers from local churches gave 423 hours — they made meals, delivered food boxes, brought and delivered personal hygiene products, coordinated the personal hygiene closets and linen closets, repaired bicycles and delivered them, delivered furniture and appliances, donated many items, picked up, cleaned and delivered medical equipment, helped with house cleaning, helped move people, chopped and delivered wood and provided warm companionship for activities like walking, or going to the doctor or reading out loud.

If you'll look at these things that they did in February, you'll note they have one thing in common — these are all ordinary activities that most people can easily do. None of them require extremely high education; none of them require special skills. But each hour given makes a big difference in someone's life. We received a phone call yesterday when someone thanked us through tears for the help they'd received. They said they wouldn't have known how to cope without the volunteers who came and helped.
