We never know what's going to happen from day to day. As most of you know, we normally do very little in helping with money. Our mission is to connect you to people who have needs.

However, yesterday we got a phone call from a woman who needed $165.00. She needed it to get into an Oxford House. Oxford Houses are Christian based consumer run homes for people recovering from alcoholism. So, each person living in the home is a part of the team that pays for the home and runs it. There are a couple of Oxford Houses in Corvallis and many across the state. Since everyone in the home is accountable both for the finances and for keeping each other on the path to sobriety, they do not have a fund of money to enable people to stay there without paying their own way.

I told her that we needed to speak to her case worker first. The case worker called within a few minutes and said this woman was doing really well and it would take two weeks for the check to arrive from the Department of Human Services for the one month they will pay for. The case worker was worried that two weeks on the streets meeting old friends with bad habits might undo much of the good that had been done in her client's life. She also told us it would only be a loan as the money was coming and Oxford House would repay us.

I didn't have to pray too long to know that God wanted us to do this. One of His children was weak and in danger and we could help protect her. We had the check there within two hours and met our client at the House. Thank you God for letting other case workers know that Your Church is willing and able to help.
